ulcerative colitis

Recurrent bloody stools aren't just an inconvenience. They can be a serious signal your body is trying to send you. Don't ignore your body's warning signs. Ulcerative colitis is often misunderstood as a minor problem. However, it's an early warning from your gut that something is wrong and requires medical attention.

A Constantly Inflamed Gut

Ulcerative colitis causes the lining of the large intestine to become continuously inflamed. This inflammation doesn't resolve on its own. The wounds within it can't heal completely without medical attention. Chronic inflammation is no small matter. Imagine the intestinal wall like skin that's constantly rubbed against it every day. If left untreated, the wounds will deepen and widen.

Small Wounds, Big Impact

Just like cuts on the skin, small wounds in the intestines can bleed. The difference is that the blood mixes with stool and occurs repeatedly.

Intestinal wounds are a hidden danger sign. You can't see the wound directly, but blood in the stool is evidence that the intestinal wall has been damaged.

Not Just Ordinary Hemorrhoids

Many people mistakenly assume that all bloody stools are hemorrhoids. However, ulcerative colitis has different, more dangerous characteristics.

Differentiate hemorrhoids from ulcerative colitis. Hemorrhoids have bright red, dripping blood. Ulcerative colitis has blood mixed with mucus and feces, often accompanied by diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Roller Coaster-like Ups and Downs

Ulcerative colitis has a characteristic pattern: it can settle down and then recur. During remission, there is no blood and bowel movements are normal. During flares, blood and diarrhea return. Don't wait for a relapse to take action. Delaying treatment means giving the intestines time to become more damaged.

Chronic Disease, Increased Risk

The longer ulcerative colitis is left uncontrolled, the higher the risk of complications, including the risk of colon cancer. Time is not an ally if the disease is left untreated. Every year of active inflammation, the intestinal lining becomes thinner and more fragile. This makes the intestines vulnerable to serious complications.

Ulcerative colitis is not a temporary illness. It is a long-term condition that requires regular check-ups to reduce the risk of complications. Don't wait for complications to arise. Early detection and control of inflammation is the best way to reduce the risk of future cancer.

If you experience recurring bloody stools, consult a doctor immediately. A checkup today could save your bowels for years to come.
